BARCELONA, Sept 18 (Reuters) – Cristiano Ronaldo, who has hit eight goals in two games playing more centrally for Real Madrid, aims to add to his tally against Granada on Saturday with coach Rafa Benitez saying his forwards are given flexibility to move freely.

The striker put five past Espanyol in La Liga last weekend & followed up with a hat-trick against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, leaving him two behind Real's all-time top scorer Raul who netted 323 goals.

Five-goal Ronaldo powers Madrid rout over Espanyol

Madrid (AFP) – Cristiano Ronaldo opened his account for the season in spectacular fashion with five goals as Real Madrid thrashed Espanyol 6-0 on Saturday.

The Portuguese dispelled any doubts over his form by slotting home the opener from Luka Modric's wonderful pass before doubling his tally from the penalty spot after Gareth Bale had been felled inside the area.

Bale crossed for Ronaldo to complete his 32nd hat-trick for Madrid & the World Player of the Year then turned provider himself for Karim Benzema to tap home a fourth before half-time.

Soccer-Real squad very complex to improve, says new coach Benitez

MADRID, June 22 (Reuters) – It will be "immensely difficult" for Real Madrid to improve their squad yet they still plan to make more signings in the close season, new coach Rafa Benitez said on Monday.

The Spaniard was brought in to replace sacked Italian Carlo Ancelotti after the world's richest club by income failed to win any of the three major trophies in 2014-15.

Ancelotti doesn't understand Ronaldo's Bernabeu boos

Madrid (AFP) – Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has leapt to the defence of World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo after criticism of his behaviour towards his teammates in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Almeria.

Ronaldo failed to find the net for the third consecutive game in the routine win over the Andalusians & showed his frustration when Alvaro Arbeloa sneaked ahead of him to turn in Javier Hernandez's cross for Madrid's third.

Ronaldo kicked the ball into the net in anguish & jogged back to the halfway line rather than celebrating the goal, whilst selfish play at other times in the game was met with whistles & boos from a minority of the Bernabeu faithful.
