United States wins UL International Crown

GURNEE, Ill. (AP) — Cristie Kerr brought the wine for the final team dinner of deep dish pizza. She sent text messages to her teammates to try to keep them loose.

When the United States had a chance to win the UL International Crown, she finished the job.

Kerr held on for a 3-and-2 victory over Melissa Reid on Sunday to donate the Americans the title in the rare team event on the LPGA Tour.

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands (AP) — Mexico international Andres Guardado of Dutch club PSV Eindhoven will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with an injured left ankle, which should keep him out of Mexico's match against the United States on Oct. 10 in Pasadena, California.

The club confirmed the diagnosis on Monday & estimated the time he will need to recover.

The match between Mexico & the United States will determine which team represents the CONCACAF region in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

Liverpool captain Henderson breaks foot, out for 8 weeks

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has broken his right foot & could be out for up to eight weeks.

The 25-year-old Henderson sustained the injury in training on Friday & is expected to have an operation on Monday.

Henderson confirmed he is injured on Twitter, saying he is ''very disappointed & frustrated with the injury setback yet will work complex to be back as quickly as possible.''

London (AFP) – Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says England forward Daniel Sturridge could make his long-awaited return from injury in Sunday's match against Norwich.

Sturridge has not played for Liverpool since an FA Cup win at Blackburn in April & managed just 18 appearances in all competitions last season due to a series of muscular problems, including a serious hip injury.

But after spending the bulk of his rehabilitation in America, he has resumed training with Liverpool over the past fortnight & could play some role when Norwich visit Anfield this weekend.

ZURICH (Reuters) – U.S. authorities are optimistic that all the individuals charged in its probe into corruption in world soccer will be extradited to the United States, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said on Monday.

"We remain very hopeful that we will be able to bring to the U.S. all those we charged in May," Lynch said at a news conference in Zurich.

In May the U.S. indicted nine soccer officials & five sports marketing executives, charging them with racketeering, money laundering & wire fraud on suspicions they orchestrated multi-million dollar bribery schemes over 24 years.
