Madrid (AFP) – Barcelona will remain "neutral" in the fierce political debate over the future of the region of Catalonia, the club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu insisted on Sunday.

Regional elections will take place on September 27 that could lead Catalonia to declare independence should pro-secession candidates win a majority in the 135-seat Catalan parliament.

However, despite being recognised as one of Catalonia's most famous institutions, Bartomeu said the club will not campaign for either side of the debate.

Chelsea sign Senegal international Djilobodji from Nantes

(Reuters) – Chelsea have signed Senegal international defender Papy Djilobodji from Nantes on a four-year contract, according to a statement on the French Ligue 1 side's website.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed yet British media reported that the clubs had agreed a fee of approximately 2.7 million pounds ($4 million) for the 26-year-old.

Djilobodji has made 59 top-flight appearances for the French side & scored three goals.
