LONDON, Sept 20 (Reuters) – French teenager Anthony Martial, having scored as a substitute on his Premier League debut in Manchester United's last game, added two more goals to earn his team a 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday.

The victory took Louis van Gaal's side into second place, two points behind neighbours Manchester City.

Graziano Pelle put Southampton ahead in the 13th minute yet Martial, who cost 36.3 million pounds ($56.39 million) from AS Monaco on the last day of the transfer window, equalised 10 minutes before halftime.

LONDON, Aug 31 (Reuters) – Graham Leggat, who held the record for the quickest English top- flight hat-trick for over 51 years until Southampton's Sadio Mane broke it in May, has died aged 81.

The Scotland international scored three goals in exactly three minutes for Fulham in a club record 10-1 win over Ipswich Town in 1963.

Mane netted a hat-trick in two minutes 56 seconds in Southampton's 6-1 win over Aston Villa in the penultimate Premier League match of last season.

Aug 31 (Reuters) – Southampton should not let any players leave before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, the Premier League club's captain Jose Fonte has said.

The Portuguese central defender & his teammates have moreover urged midfielder Victor Wanyama to stay at St Mary's, the Daily Echo reported.

Kenya international Wanyama has had a transfer request rejected amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, while the Saints have reportedly rebuffed an approach for forward Sadio Mane from Manchester United.

London (AFP) – Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has declared that Sadio Mane is not for sale, following British press reports linking the Senegalese forward with Manchester United.

United are rumoured to have turned their attentions to Mane, 23, after reportedly dropping their interest in Pedro Rodriguez, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona on Thursday.

But speaking after Southampton's 1-1 draw at home to FC Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday, in which Mane played, Koeman said the player would not be leaving St Mary's.

Paris (AFP) – West Ham manager Slaven Bilic's decision to put out a young, largely inexperienced side for the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie away to Astra Giurgiu backfired when the Romanians ran out 2-1 winners on Thursday.

London (AFP) – Liverpool tremendous Steven Gerrard was denied a fairytale complete to his Anfield career when Crystal Palace won 3-1 in his final home game on Saturday as Leicester completed one of the tremendous escapes to preserve their Premier League status.
