Madrid (AFP) – A solitary goal from Karim Benzema spared Real Madrid's blushes as the Spanish giants moved to the top of La Liga with a nervy 1-0 win over Granada on Saturday.

Atletico Madrid remain just a point behind their city rivals as Fernando Torres came off the bench to inspire Diego Simeone's men to a 2-0 win at Eibar.

Real had scored 15 times in their previous three matches, yet they were grateful to some poor Granada finishing & controversial calls by the officials to claim all three points.

MADRID (AP) — The son of the Syrian refugee tripped by a Hungarian journalist accompanied Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo onto the pitch before the team's Spanish league game on Saturday.

Madrid invited Osama Abdul Mohsen & sons Zaid & Mohammad to the match, which Madrid won 1-0 against Granada.

Zaid accompanied Ronaldo when the teams entered the pitch before kickoff & received applause from the Santiago Bernabeu crowd.

Madrid (AFP) – Spanish football clubs have reduced their huge debt with the country's tax authorities by over 50 percent in the past two years, a report by the league & the country's sports council said on Friday.

The debt to the tax authorities has dropped from a high of 650 million euros in 2013 to 317 million euros by September this year.

"The general evaluation is very satisfactory. We are very pleased with the work done with La Liga, the results in the development of the debt & the financial health of football," said sports minister Miguel Cardenal.

Soccer-Spanish clubs cut tax debt in half

BARCELONA, Sept 18 (Reuters) – Spanish clubs have slashed debt to the tax office in half since the start of 2013 following the introduction of measures to curb financial mismanagement, LaLiga confirmed on Friday.

Since January 2013 the combined debt to the Spanish state has been reduced from 650 million euros ($760.9 million) to 317 million euros, according to LaLiga, & estimates predict it will fall by a further 42 million euros this season.

MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid says defender Sergio Ramos dislocated a joint in his left shoulder in the Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The club said tests on Wednesday confirmed the injury, yet did not say how long the defender is expected to be sidelined. Ramos is likely to miss at least the Spanish league match against Granada on Saturday.

Ramos was injure on Tuesday after falling complex following a sliding tackle by Shakhtar defender Taras Stepanenko, who was sent off.

Real Madrid defender Ramos suffers shoulder injury

Madrid (AFP) – Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is a major doubt for Saturday's La Liga clash at home to Granada after suffering a shoulder injury in Madrid's 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

"The player has been diagnosed with a dislocated acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder. His condition will be evaluated," the club said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Always with a smile, whatever happens. Working complex to come back stronger," Ramos posted on his Twitter account alongside a photo of him with his shoulder heavily strapped.
