The Giants won for the 11th time in 12 games & took two of three from a Cubs team with the best record in baseball.

Kershaw pitched a three-hitter, struck out 14 & moreover singled home the only run, leading the Dodgers over the San Diego Padres 1-0 on Sunday.

The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner improved to 53-25 in his 120 career starts following a Dodgers loss, & the team is 77-43 in those games.

Price pitched seven shutout innings, Jose Bautista had two hits & the Blue Jays used a three-run first inning to beat the New York Yankees 4-2 on Monday night.

Price improved to 8-1 in 10 starts with Toronto since being acquired in a July 30 trade with Detroit.

Monday night, the Diamondbacks made sure there wouldn't be a champagne party at their expense at Dodger Stadium before the home team went back on the road.

The Cubs inched closer to a NL playoff berth as their magic number to clinch fell to four. Chicago, which last made the playoffs in 2008, entered Monday two games behind Pittsburgh for the first wild card berth & has now won six of seven, playing well when it matters.

''Frankie gave us just what we needed,'' manager Clint Hurdle said. ''For me, this was as satisfactory a game as he's pitched all year. His fastball played extremely well for him, & the velocity was peak. It was so effective, so tough to lay off of.''

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aramis Ramirez hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning, Andrew McCutchen doubled home two runs & the Pittsburgh Pirates ended a four-game skid with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.

Pittsburgh climbed within four games of NL Central-leading St. Louis following the Cardinals' 5-4 loss at Chicago. The Pirates remained a game ahead of the Cubs in the race for the first wild card, with both teams comfortably in playoff position.

Despite the Dodgers' sixth loss in 24 games, their magic number for clinching their third straight NL West title dropped to seven because the San Francisco Giants lost 6-0 to Arizona.
