Paris (AFP) – Fresh from enjoying a winning start to their Champions League campaign, Paris Saint-Germain can strengthen their position at the top of Ligue 1 when they go to Reims on Saturday.

Laurent Blanc's side eased to a 2-0 victory against Swedish champions Malmo at the Parc des Princes in midweek thanks to a goal in each half from Angel Di Maria & Edinson Cavani to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

They are a point clear of Rennes at the top of the French table, & three better off than Reims in third, before heading to Champagne country on Saturday as they look to commence a new winning run.

Paris (AFP) – Angel Di Maria & Edinson Cavani were on target as Paris Saint-Germain began their Champions League campaign with an ultimately comfortable 2-0 win against Malmo at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

Di Maria scored less than four minutes into his Champions League debut as a PSG player to set the French champions on their way, yet they missed a succession of opportunities before finally extending their advantage when Cavani headed home in the 61st minute.

With Real Madrid & Shakhtar Donetsk moreover in Group A, Paris needed a strong start against the Swedish champions as they target not just qualification for the knockout rounds yet an improvement on their runs to the quarter-finals in each of the last three campaigns.

Di Maria, starting just his second game since joining from Manchester United, cut inside from the right in the fourth minute & steered the ball imperiously into the left corner.

Returning to the lineup after shaking off an abdominal injury, Ibrahimovic looked short on fitness & lacked his usual assurance in front of goal against the club where the Swede started his career in 1999.

PARIS (AP) — Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to lead the attack for Paris Saint-Germain as it begins its Champions League campaign against Swedish side Malmo, the club where he started his career.
