NBA tremendous Nate Thurmond, Hall of Fame center, dies at 74

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Nate Thurmond, the tenacious defensive center who played with Wilt Chamberlain & was an iconic figure in two cities, died Saturday after a short battle with leukemia. He was 74.

The Golden State Warriors announced the death of one of the team's most respected players less than a month after they lost the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games. Both franchises previously retired the Akron, Ohio, native's No. 42.

Thurmond played 11 of his 14 seasons with the Warriors & retired after the 1976-1977 season, one year after leading the ''Miracle'' Cavaliers to an improbable trip to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Philadelphia 76ers took the Australian with the No. 1 pick on Thursday night, making him the first of a record 14 international players chosen in the first round.

Nearly half the selections in the 30-pick round were international players, topping the 12 international players chosen in the first round in 2013.

And Ingram was told not to do that.

Seattle gives tryout to former NBA star Nate Robinson

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have given former NBA standout & one-time college football player Nate Robinson a tryout.

The Seahawks confirmed that Robinson went through a tryout on Monday, first reported by The Washington Post. Robinson had indicated in video posted to YouTube earlier this spring a desire to play football again.

Robinson gave up his chance at football after his freshman year at Washington, where he was a standout defensive back. Robinson appeared in 13 games in 2002 as a true freshman & had two interceptions. He gave up his football career the following spring to focus on basketball & became a first-round pick in 2005.

DALLAS (AP) — Kevin Durant says he's pleased new Washington coach Scott Brooks is back in the NBA a year after being let go by Oklahoma City.

That doesn't mean Durant is – or isn't – heading to Washington.

When asked approximately the theory the Wizards hired Brooks to lure him closer to home in free agency this summer, Durant said, ''I ain't really into theories. I'm focused on the Mavericks.''
