Revis, Joseph bring positive news

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Darrelle Revis & Davin Joseph took steps forward Monday on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ injury front. Carl Nicks took a step back on his troublesome left foot.

Nicks, the starting guard who missed the second half of last season with a lingering injury on his left huge toe, has developed a blister on the same foot. It is infected, & Nicks could not practice Monday.

”It’s not something you mess around with, yet it’s not your usual injury, either,” coach Greg Schiano said. ”The next question is how long will it be? I don’t know that. We’ve received to let the medicine run its course & see if we can obtain that thing straightened out.”

Schaub helps Texans to 24-17 win over Miami

HOUSTON (AP) — By the time Houston’s Matt Schaub received going Saturday night against the Miami Dolphins, it was time for him to sit down.

Schaub was 8 of 11 for 92 yards & a touchdown & the Texans received a 24-17 win over the Dolphins.

Schaub played most of the first quarter for Houston (2-0) & received off to a rough start, throwing an interception on his first series & being sacked on third down on the second. He & the offense received going on the next drive, & he found tight end Owen Daniels wide open in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown play to put Houston up 7-0.

Jags' Gabbert leaves vs. Jets with sprained thumb

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert has left the Jaguars’ preseason game against the New York Jets because of a sprained right thumb.

Gabbert, competing with Chad Henne for the starting job, appeared to bang his throwing hand on one of the Jets’ defensive players’ helmets Saturday night. He was replaced by Henne late in the second quarter, yet the Jaguars announced that Gabbert was coming out of the game regardless of the injury.

Before the injury, Gabbert made a satisfactory case to wrap up the Jaguars’ starting job, going 13 of 16 for 165 yards & a touchdown. He played the first four series in the team’s exhibition opener against Miami, going 5 of 10 for 19 yards.

Houston WR Hopkins leaves game with head injury

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston first-round pick receiver DeAndre Hopkins has left the Texans’ game against Miami because of a head injury.

It was unclear when he was injured, yet he was taken to the locker room to be evaluated in the second quarter & the team said he wouldn’t return. No further details on his injury were immediately available.

Hopkins, the 27th overall pick this year out of Clemson, had two receptions for 22 yards before leaving the game.
