AL East-leading Blue Jays lose grip, last-place Bosox win

AL East-leading Blue Jays lose grip, last-place Bosox win

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays don't have much time to dwell on Sunday's dismal defensive performance. Come Monday night, the AL East leaders have a showdown with the New York Yankees to focus on.

The Blue Jays matched a season high with three errors, two of which led to runs Sunday in a 4-3 loss to the last-place Boston Red Sox.

''We've been playing outstanding defense, so we were due for a clunker like this,'' said pitcher Mark Buehrle, a four-time Gold Glover whose errant relay throw in fourth inning led to Boston's first run. ''We've just received to come back tomorrow & be ready for the Yankees.''

Blue Jays-Rangers Preview

Blue Jays-Rangers Preview

Both on the outside of the playoff picture a month ago, the Toronto Blue Jays & Texas Rangers now control their own destinies with remarkable turnarounds since the trade deadline.

Toronto (69-55) stood eight games behind AL East-leading New York when it acquired Troy Tulowitzki on July 28, two days prior to trading for fellow All-Star David Price. That deficit has since been erased due to a 19-4 stretch following the Tulowitzki deal.
