GENEVA (AP) — Lionel Messi's first goal of the Champions League season took three minutes. Edinson Cavani needed just 44 seconds for Paris Saint-Germain. Manchester City never received the chance to start.

Messi's swift start was the first of a hat trick in Barcelona's 7-0 rout of Celtic, & fellow superstar forwards Neymar & Luis Suarez moreover scored. Celtic had a penalty saved when trailing 1-0 midway through the first half.

Hart, Bony, Nasri leave in Man City clear-out

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City's clear-out after an offseason of heavy spending was in full flow Wednesday, with Joe Hart, Wilfried Bony & Samir Nasri sent out on loan as new coach Pep Guardiola attempted to streamline his squad on the final day of transfer window.

Hart, the England goalkeeper, was loaned to Italian club Torino for the rest of the season after dropping to third choice at City behind new signing Claudio Bravo & Willy Caballero under Guardiola. In announcing Hart's departure after 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, City said he was a ''key figure in a golden age in the club's history.''

Bony, who hasn't played a minute for City since Guardiola's arrival, has joined Stoke for the remainder of the season. The Ivory Coast striker's career has stalled after joining from Swansea for 28 million pounds ($36.6 million) in January 2015, with a combination of international call-ups, injuries, illness & poor form preventing him from establishing himself at City.

Embarrassingly for City, the club was beaten to the announcement of its latest high-profile signing by UEFA, which listed Stones in the English team's squad for the Champions League playoff round approximately 45 minutes before City tweeted the center back had joined.

Stones, who signed a six-year deal, is second behind David Luiz in the all-time list of the game's most expensive defenders – despite not being a regular at former club Everton last season. Luiz joined Paris Saint-Germain from Chelsea for 50 million pounds in 2014.

Spain international Nolito became City's second signing under new coach Pep Guardiola – after Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan – when he joined from Celta Vigo on a four-year deal. No financial details were disclosed, yet British media reported the fee to be 13.8 million pounds ($18.3 million).

Palace then announced the club-record signing of Andros Townsend for 13 million pounds ($17.3 million) on a five-year deal, with the England winger ending his brief spell at Newcastle following its relegation from the Premier League.

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Newcastle continued its late fight to avoid relegation from the top tier, drawing 1-1 with Manchester City on Tuesday after Sergio Aguero became the second fastest player to score 100 English Premier League goals.
