LONDON, Aug 19 (Reuters) – Southampton’s record signing Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is itching to obtain stuck into premier league defences, the Italy striker telling reporters on Monday he is thrilled to be working again with coach Mauricio Pochettino.

“I want to do something significant in this league,” the striker who signed from AS Roma said, his heavily tattooed arms resting casually on a table at St Mary’s stadium.

Soccer-Osvaldo leaves Roma to become a Saint

Aug 18 (Reuters) – Southampton have signed Italian international Pablo Osvaldo from Serie A side Roma, the Premier League club announced on Sunday.

The 27-year-old attacker penned a four-year deal with the Saints in what is being reported by English media as a club record transfer of 15 million pounds ($23.42 million).

“Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Italy striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo,” the club said on their official website (www.saintsfc.co.uk).

Osvaldo, who was born in Argentina, has been capped nine times for Italy & played under Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino while at Espanyol.

Southampton began the new season with a 1-0 win away at West Brom on Saturday courtesy of new England international Rickie Lambert’s 90th minute penalty.

Balotelli fit for PSV clash

AC Milan will have Mario Balotelli available for its UEFA Champions League playoff with PSV on Tuesday after he came through a friendly unscathed.

The Rossoneri overcame Serie D side Derthona 11-0 at their Milanello training complex on Saturday, with the striker scoring a first-half double to prove his fitness.

Though Balotelli left after completing 45 minutes, it is believed that he demonstrated sufficiently that he has overcome the knee injury he suffered earlier in preseason. The former Manchester City forward moreover missed Italy’s 2-1 defeat against Argentina in Rome on Wednesday yet appears to have vindicated the words of Milan CEO Adriano Galliani, who said earlier this week that Balotelli would be ready for the upcoming European encounter.
