Milan (AFP) – Gonzalo Higuain struck once in each half as Napoli made amends for their dismal start to the season by handing Lazio their first 5-0 rout in Serie A since 1984 on Sunday.

Calls for Napoli's new coach, Maurizio Sarri, to be sacked have grown increasingly louder in recent weeks after his team failed to win any of their opening three league games.

Napoli's first win under Sarri was their 5-0 defeat of Club Brugge in the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday.

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Throughout his long career, Stefano Cusin has played in Italy, France & Switzerland & coached in Bulgaria, Cameroon & the Congo. But the 46-year-old, Tuscany-born Cusin says it's only in the Palestinian soccer backwater of Hebron that he has truly rediscovered his passion for the sport.

''I've discovered again the pleasure to train, to play football, the passion,'' he said. ''We've found a group of tremendous guys who were eager to learn & for a trainer this is the most attractive thing … I was looking for a challenge, something different, less money yet with a huge challenge.''

His arrival on the scene has moreover transformed the fortunes of scrappy perennial loser al-Ahli al-Khalil. He took a team with a $1 million annual budget raised mostly from donations to a European training camp where they played friendlies against superior competition. In just nine months, al-Ahli al-Khalil has notched four separate titles & Cusin has become a hero in the city.

MONZA, Italy (AP) — Nicolas Colsaerts matched the European Tour record of eight birdies in a row Thursday on his way to an opening-round 9-under 63 to take the clubhouse lead at the Italian Open.

The Belgian made a solid start on the back nine, parring his first four holes before five consecutive birdies from the 14th to the 18th saw him make the turn in 31.

Colsaerts, who is ranked 218th, moreover birdied the next three yet then narrowly missed from 20 feet on the fourth. The European Tour said Colsaerts was the 11th player to make eight straight birdies yet that he won't officially be given a share of the record as the tournament was using preferred lies.
