MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Indonesia's suspension from international soccer for government interference in the country's soccer federation has ended after almost a year, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Friday.

However, the FIFA Congress confirmed the existing suspensions for Kuwait & Benin over government interference in their soccer associations.

Malaysian football chief 'to quit' after 10-0 drubbing

Malaysia's football chief announced plans to step down on Monday after a record 10-0 defeat which cost the coach his job & prompted the sports minister to threaten to suspend the country's soccer body.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President Tengku Abdullah Ahmad Shah said he would gradually step aside, state-run Bernama news agency reported, without giving further details.

"I will step down in stages because there are a lot more matters in FAM that I have to complete," he was quoted as saying. No timetable was given for his exit.

Indonesian Youth & Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi said on Friday FIFA would send an investigative team & see that all was well again in the country's soccer governance, yet the world governing body told Reuters on Tuesday the trip was news to them.

"FIFA & AFC (Asian Football Confederation) would like to confirm that no such visit is planned," a spokesman said.

The Serie A team touched down in Jakarta on Friday evening for the first time in the club's history yet ran into trouble at customs, Roma chief executive Italo Zanzi said.

Seydou Doumbia, Gervinho, Victor Ibarbo, Adem Ljajic & Antonio Sanabria were denied entry for not possessing valid visas, an Indonesian immigration official told AFP.

Pacquiao seeks mercy for Filipino on death row in Indonesia

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao prayed with a Filipino woman on death row in Indonesia & promised to appeal for clemency in the latest bid from her country to save her.

Pacquiao & his wife, Jinkee, spent approximately an hour with Mary Jane Veloso early Friday at a Yogyakarta jail.

Veloso was sentenced to death for drug trafficking after heroin was found hidden in her luggage at the Yogyakarta airport in 2010. She was granted a last minute stay of execution in April, yet eight other convicts – two Australians, four Nigerians, a Brazilian & an Indonesian – were executed.
