India's Lahiri targets British Open top 10

(Reuters) – India's Anirban Lahiri has targeted a top 10 complete at next week's British Open at Royal Troon as the reigning Asian Tour number one gears up for a bumper month of golf that ends with the Rio Olympics in August.

Lahiri, who turned 29 last week, finished tied for 31st in his British Open debut in 2012 & will make his fourth appearance at the championships at the Scottish links from July 14-17.

"The Open is truly a special tournament," Lahiri told the Asian Tour. "I've had a couple of decent outings yet feel like I missed out both times on a top-10 finish.

MUMBAI, Sept 3 (Reuters) – Reigning English Premier League champions Chelsea FC will team up with Indian IT services group Wipro Ltd to assist improve its digital media strategy, the two said a day after rival Manchester United made a similar announcement.

Wipro will work to improve fan engagement on game days & at other times & Chelsea Managing director Christian Purslow said the deal could moreover assist the club build on its popularity in India, "where we have over 50 million passionate supporters & where there is tremendous potential to further our fan base".

No financial details were given.

KOHLER, Wisconsin (Reuters) – Anirban Lahiri notched up India's best-ever result at a major championship by finishing tied fifth at the PGA Championship on Sunday, leaving him in no doubt he belonged at golf's top table with the game's current crop of rising stars.

The 28-year-old closed with an assured final round of four-under-par 68 & a 13-under total on the notoriously tricky Whistling Straits track, seven shots back of winner Jason Day of Australia who held off double major winner Jordan Spieth.

"It's been a fantastic week," Lahiri told reporters after eclipsing the previous Indian major record of a tied ninth complete by Jeev Milkha Singh at the 2008 PGA Championship.

Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos will don his boots again after signing up Thursday as the marquee player for the Indian Super League's second season, three years after his last competitive match.
