Liriano outpitched reigning NL MVP Clayton Kershaw, & Aramis Ramirez hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning as the Pirates ended a four-game skid with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.

''Frankie gave us just what we needed,'' manager Clint Hurdle said. ''For me, this was as satisfactory a game as he's pitched all year. His fastball played extremely well for him, & the velocity was peak. It was so effective, so tough to lay off of.''

Pirates survive Arizona rally, win 9-8 in 15 innings

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pedro Florimon flubbed a simple bunt in the 13th that would have put the Pittsburgh Pirates in position to win. Two innings later, the light-hitting backup shortstop decided to take a more decisive approach & produced the first walkoff hit of his baseball life.

Cervelli singled off Keith Hessler (0-1) for his fourth hit & Florimon hit a high flyball to right field that clanged off the wall. Cervelli had little trouble beating the throw to the plate with a tumbling slide, ending Pittsburgh's longest game of the season & earning Florimon a creampie to the face from teammate A.J. Burnett.
