SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — Germany is to take a late decision on whether defender Mats Hummels could return for its match against Poland at the European Championship on Thursday.

Though the world champions beat Ukraine 2-0 in their opening Group C game at Euro 2016 last Sunday, Germany's defensive frailties were exposed.

Coach Joachim Loew is hoping that the Hummels, who recently joined Bayern Munich, will be declared fit after a calf injury sustained last month & restore some order to the German back-line.

Berlin (AFP) – Germany host England at Berlin's imposing Olympic Stadium on Saturday amidst security concerns as both teams look to throw down a marker for Euro 2016.

The Brussels bomb attacks last Tuesday means security personnel will be on a high state of alert with a crowd of around 72,000 expected for the high-profile match as two of the favourites for June's European championships meet.

Germany suffered a blow on Wednesday when Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger tore the ligament in his right knee & faces a race against time to be fit for Euro 2016 finals which starts on June 10.

BERLIN, March 21 (Reuters) – VfL Wolfsburg's Max Kruse was axed from the Germany squad for their friendly internationals against England & Italy after coach Joachim Loew lost patience with the striker's "unprofessional" off-the-pitch behaviour.

Kruse has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent months, including leaving 75,000 euros ($84,435.00) in cash in a taxi last year that resulted in a hefty club fine, & on Saturday he snatched a camera away from a woman who had taken photographs of him in the club grounds.

She turned out to be a reporter for the daily Bild newspaper.

BERLIN, March 18 (Reuters) – Bayer Leverkusen centre back Jonathan Tah received his first Germany call-up on Friday for their friendly internationals against England & Italy this month.

The 20-year-old central defender, who has been in fine form in his first season at Leverkusen, received the nod after injured defenders Jerome Boateng & Benedikt Hoewedes were ruled out of their March 26 clash against England in Berlin.

Germany then take on the Italians three days after in Munich.
