Totti landmark, yet ageing star is on borrowed time

Milan (AFP) – It should have set the bells ringing around the red & yellow half of the Italian capital, yet reactions to Francesco Totti's 300th career goal for Roma on Sunday have been unashamedly muted.

"Well done to our captain for your 300th goal ! What an achievement ! Major respect," screamed a message posted on Twitter by club teammate Antonio Rudiger.

For its sincerity, Rudiger's message was spot-on. But it was Roma's failure to beat Serie A minnows Sassuolo, in a 2-2 draw, that stole the headlines from the veteran forward's achievement.

Amid their worst start to the season in several decades, Juventus travelled to Genoa hoping to build on an impressive 2-1 Champions League victory over Manchester City in midweek.

Pogba helped break the deadlock in the 37th minute when he received on the end of Roberto Pereyra's cross at the back post to fire a volley off the bar & into the net after the ball bounced off goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna for an own-goal.

ROME, Sept 15 (Reuters) – AS Roma supporters may be looking ahead to Barcelona's Champions League visit with some trepidation & coach Rudi Garcia certainly does not seem to be bursting with optimism.

Barcelona's visit to the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday, which kicks off their Champions League title defence, comes just under a year after Roma lost 7-1 at home to Bayern Munich in the same competition.

Empoli hold Roma as scudetto hopes fade further

Milan (AFP) – Roma's hopes of a first Serie A title faded further on Saturday after a fourth consecutive draw, 1-1 at home to Empoli, to leave Juventus six points clear before their trip to Udinese.

The Giallorossi's dreams of a first scudetto since 2001 were dented significantly by last week's draw away to Fiorentina which allowed Juve to open up a seven-point gap on Rudi Garcia's men.

Totti brace saves Roma blushes

Milan (AFP) – A second-half brace by captain Francesco Totti saved Roma's blushes in a 2-2 draw with city rivals Lazio that pulled them level with Juventus at the top of Italy's Serie A on Sunday.

Roma started the 141st derby only one point behind Juventus, who can pull three points clear with a win away to high-flying Napoli in Sunday's late game.

But it took a second-half double from veteran playmaker Totti to secure a share of the spoils after Stefano Mauri & Felipe Anderson had given Lazio a 2-0 first-half lead.
