Alex Noren wins European Masters in playoff with Scott Hend

CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Alex Noren of Sweden sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to beat Scott Hend of Australia in a playoff for the European Masters title on Sunday.

Noren fired a 5-under round of 65 to be tied at 17 under with Hend, the overnight leader who carded a 66 on the Swiss Alps course.

Playing the par-four 18th hole again in the playoff, Hend left his third shot from the fringe of the green well short before Noren's no-doubter putt earned a 450,000 euros ($502,000) winner's prize.

Rookie Langasque fires 63 to lead European Masters 2nd round

CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Tour newcomer Romain Langasque shot a 7-under 63 to take the clubhouse lead in the European Masters second round on Friday.

The Frenchman moved to 9 under, one clear of Alex Noren of Sweden, who moreover had a 63 on a sunny day in the Swiss Alps.

Andrew Johnston, the popular Englishman known to fans as ''Beef,'' was on 7 under after a morning round of 68.

Willett, who finished tied sixth at last week's British Open, started the final round level on 12 under with Fitzpatrick & the 27-year-old shot a bogey-free 65 to complete 17 under par & claim his third European Tour title.

Former world amateur number one Fitzpatrick carded six birdies in his final round yet two bogeys meant the 20-year-old had to settle for 16 under.

CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Danny Willett won his third European Tour title after a one-shot victory over Matthew Fitzpatrick in the European Masters on Sunday.

The 27-year-old, who tied sixth at the British Open on Monday, shot a 5-under par 65 to complete on 17 under overall.

Willett made five birdies in a bogey-free final round unlike Fitzpatrick, who bogeyed the first & 11th holes.

Willett started the third round on Saturday with a one-shot lead, yet had two bogeys & a double bogey in his first four holes. There were two more bogeys coming in, yet a 30-foot eagle on the 15th limited the damage to a 1-over-par 71.

He was at 12 under for the tournament with Fitzpatrick, the former U.S. Amateur champion who came through Q School to enjoy his first year on the European Tour. Fitzpatrick climbed into contention with a 64.
