Soccer-I will be the first to know when to go says Advocaat

LONDON, Sept 21 (Reuters) – Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat said on Monday he would not stick around in the job if he felt someone else could do it better following the team's woeful start to the Premier League season.

Advocaat told reporters on Monday: "Let's be clear, if I feel that it is better for somebody else to take over then I will be the first man to say, 'if it is better for the club, I will go.' Believe me."

Sunderland are without a win in six matches, a hugely disappointing start after Advocaat took over from Gus Poyet in March & helped them avoid what looked like certain relegation to The Championship.

Sept 4 (Reuters) – Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is set to return to training next week after recovering from a shoulder injury that ruled him out of all yet the first game of the campaign, which the Black Cats lost 4-2 to Leicester City.

"This week Adam had to go to the doctor for the final time — yet everything is OK with his legs," Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat told the British media.

Aug 28 (Reuters) – Sunderland have signed Sweden international Ola Toivonen on a season-long loan from French Ligue 1 side Rennes, according to a statement on the Premier League club's website.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder joined Rennes in January 2014 & has scored 14 goals in 46 league appearances for the club. He moreover has more than 40 caps for Sweden.

"I worked with Ola at PSV (Eindhoven) so I know him well," Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat told the club's website (www.safc.com).

Aug 28 (Reuters) – Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has criticised his predecessors for wasting money on "lower than average" players, according to a report in the Sunderland Echo.

The Black Cats have spent around 22.5 million pounds ($35 million) in the current transfer window to bring in Sebastian Coates, Adam Matthews, Ricky Alvarez, Jeremain Lens & Younes Kaboul.

They moreover sold striker Connor Wickham to Crystal Palace for a reported nine million pounds, & Advocaat, whose club sit second from bottom in the table with one point from three games, said he needed to trim the squad further.
