Soccer-Rodgers concerned by Liverpool's lack of firepower

MANCHESTER, Sept 12 (Reuters) – Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admitted he will have to find a solution to his team's goalscoring woes after they were outplayed in a 3-1 defeat by bitter rivals Manchester United on Saturday.

Liverpool have found the net just three times in their opening five Premier League games & were largely toothless in the defeat at Old Trafford.

Rodgers' side struggled to create chances against a resolute United defence & seemed to lack midfield creativity or forward movement.

Wenger rues offside call in Liverpool stalemate

Wenger rues offside call in Liverpool stalemate

London (AFP) – Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger railed against the decision to disallow a goal by Aaron Ramsey for offside after his side drew 0-0 in a lively home game with Liverpool.

Liverpool largely controlled the first half at the Emirates Stadium, twice hitting the woodwork, yet Arsenal thought they had gone ahead when Ramsey finished off a glorious through ball from Santi Cazorla.

However, the goal was ruled out — incorrectly, as television replays would prove — & with Liverpool having already benefited from a beneficial offside call in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth last week, Wenger felt that luck had shone on them again.

Arsenal, Liverpool share spoils in slugfest

Arsenal, Liverpool share spoils in slugfest

London (AFP) – Arsenal & Liverpool had to settle for a point each after a richly entertaining game of two halves beneath the Emirates Stadium drizzle implausibly finished 0-0 on Monday.

With Arsenal centre-backs Per Mertesacker & Laurent Koscielny absent — the former ill, the latter laid low by a back problem — Liverpool dominated the first half, hitting the woodwork twice & seeing Petr Cech produce an astonishing save to deny Christian Benteke, although Aaron Ramsey moreover had a goal contentiously ruled out for Arsenal.

The hosts took control in the second half, Alexis Sanchez striking the post, yet Liverpool held firm for a result that left them two points below leaders Manchester City — the only team in the Premier League to have won their first three games — & three points above Arsenal.

Wenger has no sympathy for Liverpool's strike force loss

Wenger has no sympathy for Liverpool's strike force loss

(Reuters) – Liverpool lost Luis Suarez & Raheem Sterling in successive summers yet Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has no sympathy for the club who refused to sell the Uruguayan to the Gunners in 2013.

Arsenal welcome the Merseyside club on Monday for a high-profile fixture at the Emirates Stadium & the Reds' rejection of the Gunners' offer of 40 million plus one pound for Suarez still seems to rankle Wenger.

"Liverpool can make their own decisions. They refused to sell us Suarez so I cannot feel too much sympathy for them," the 65-year-old Frenchman said.

Soccer-Benteke makes Liverpool unpredictable, says Rodgers

Soccer-Benteke makes Liverpool unpredictable, says Rodgers

Aug 24 (Reuters) – Brendan Rodgers has defended the perceived alter in Liverpool's playing style brought on by the inclusion of Christian Benteke & said the tall Belgian striker gives his side an element of unpredictability they were lacking last season.

Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal on Monday night hoping to maintain their perfect start to the season after two 1-0 victories in their previous fixtures.

The six-foot-four-inch (1.93 metres) Benteke, who joined from Aston Villa for a reported 32.5 million pounds ($51 million) in the close season, scored on his first appearance at Anfield for the Merseyside club to secure three points against Bournemouth last week.
