Carlos Santana homered in the 19th inning off infielder Darwin Barney & the Indians beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 on Friday.

''I guess if you're going to set a record, you might as well do it the complex way,'' Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer said.

Donaldson hits grand slam, Blue Jays rout Phillies 11-3

TORONTO (AP) — Josh Donaldson hit a grand slam & finished with five RBIs, Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer & the Toronto Blue Jays routed the Philadelphia Phillies 11-3 on Tuesday.

Kevin Pillar hit a leadoff blast in the second & Ezequiel Carerra drilled a two-run shot in the third as Toronto roughed up Phillies rookie Zach Eflin (0-1) to win for the 11th time in 14 meetings with Philadelphia.

Donaldson doubled & scored in the first, doubled home a run in the second, & hit his third career grand slam in the third. It was the second grand slam of the season for Donaldson, who moreover hit one April 8 against Boston. He reached for a fourth time in the seventh when he walked & scored on Encarnacion's homer off Colton Murray. Encarnacion, who sat out Monday with a sore right index finger, the blast was his fourth in four games.

Blue Jays place Tulowitzki on DL with right quad strain

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad injury.

An MRI before Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox revealed a low-grade strain, & Tulowitzki will receive treatment on the leg before resuming baseball activities.

''I think I needed more time to obtain over the hump,'' he said. ''There was a couple things that made me realize that I wasn't myself out there. I just felt it too many times.''

TORONTO (AP) — Off to the second 5-0 start of his career, Chicago White Sox left-hander Chris Sale has no plans to alter anything after Tuesday night's 10-1 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays.

''Any time you find a groove you just try to stay in it,'' Sale said after leading his club to a fifth straight win. ''It helps when you obtain 10 or 11 or however many we received tonight. It's a tough team over there.''

Sale pitched eight commanding innings & now leads the majors in victories with a 1.66 ERA & has pitched seven-plus innings in all five starts.

TORONTO (AP) — AL MVP Josh Donaldson & the Toronto Blue Jays have completed their agreement on a $28.65 million, two-year contract.

Donaldson receives $11.65 million this year & $17 million in 2017 under the deal announced Wednesday.

Toronto & Donaldson had been scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing next week. The 30-year-old third baseman had asked for a raise from $4.3 million to $11.8 million & Toronto had offered $11.35 million when the sides exchanged proposed arbitration salaries last month.

Nationals trade reliever Storen to Blue Jays for OF Revere

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals accommodated reliever Drew Storen on Friday night, trading him to the AL East champion Toronto Blue Jays for outfielder Ben Revere.

The Nationals will moreover obtain a player to be named & will send cash to the Blue Jays.

The 28-year-old Storen had sought a deal, having lost his closer role in late July when the Nationals acquired Jonathan Papelbon from Philadelphia.

Blue Jays SS Tulowitzki feels better yet return date unclear

TORONTO (AP) — One week after he suffered a broken left shoulder blade in an outfield collision, Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is no closer to knowing when he'll be able to play again.

Tulowitzki said Saturday that he's ''making strides'' after initially being unable to lift his arm. He was injured when he collided with teammate Kevin Pillar in the first game of a Sept. 12 doubleheader at Yankee Stadium.

Tulowitzki rejoined the AL East leaders on Friday after visiting a specialist in Boston. He said he has trouble finding a comfortable position to sleep, yet feels much better after each round of treatment he receives from the Blue Jays medical staff.
