Australia's Scott opts out of Olympics to focus on PGA Tour

(Reuters) – Australian world number seven Adam Scott has confirmed he will skip the Rio Olympics in August, the 2013 Masters champion citing scheduling conflicts as the main reason for opting out of golf's return to the Games after a 112-year absence.

"My decision has been taken as a result of an extremely busy playing schedule around the time of the Olympics & other commitments, both personal & professional," Scott said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I have informed the Australian team captain (Ian Baker-Finch) & relevant authorities, who are understanding of my position & I wish the Australian Olympic team the very best of luck in Rio."

(Reuters) – Australia's Minjee Lee overcame a five-shot deficit in the final round to claim victory at the LPGA's Lotte Championship in Hawaii on Saturday.

The 19-year-old played her final eight holes in six-under-par, chipping in for an eagle-three at 13 on the way to a bogey-free eight-under 64.

Lee's combined 16-under was one better than South Korea's Chun In-gee (67) & overnight leader Katie Burnett (70), whose title hopes were dented by a three-putt bogey at 16.

The 19-year-old birdied three successive holes from the par-four 11th before parring the last five to complete at 10-under, two better than American Katie Burnett.

SYDNEY (AP) — Asian Cup champion Australia will play 2004 European champion Greece in an international friendly at Sydney's Olympic stadium on June 4, the first meeting between the two countries since the Socceroos' 1-0 victory in front of 95,000 fans in Melbourne in 2006.

Socceroos coach Ange Postecolglou, who was born in Greece & moved to Australia as a child, said Tuesday the match in Sydney & another, likely in Melbourne on June 7, would be an significant warm-up for the next round of Asian qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.

Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop said, ''Greece has a proud football history & with so many Australians having a Greek heritage this is going to be a special match.''

The birdie put Day at 10-under par with one hole remaining, & moments after he hit his tee shot on No. 9, the horn sounded to stop play because of thunderstorms.

Day smashed that tee shot 346 yards with the wind at his back, leaving him 44 yards to a front pin.
