ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan says it was encouraging to see safety Aaron Williams report to the team's facility on Monday, a day after the player sustained a neck injury.

Ryan says Williams wore a neck brace & is still feeling stiff & sore after being examined & released from the hospital on Sunday.

Though tests revealed the injury wasn't serious, Ryan says it's ''probably a stretch'' to expect Williams to play in Buffalo's game at Miami on Sunday.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills safety Aaron Williams had tears welling in his eyes & wore his emotions on his back upon learning the team had cut Fred Jackson.

Rather than wear his blue No. 23 jersey for practice, Williams hit the field wearing Jackson's No. 22 white jersey – with Jackson's name printed on the back – to pay tribute to the veteran running back, who was among 11 players released by the Bills on Monday.

''It's just like having a brother be gone,'' Williams said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A person familiar with negotiations tells The Associated Press that Buffalo Bills free safety Da'Norris Searcy will test free agency next week.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity on Thursday because discussions between the Bills & Searcy have been private. The two sides haven't had contract talks since Buffalo made Searcy an offer two weeks ago, the person said.

The fourth-year player showed he was capable of being a starter in replacing Jairus Byrd, who left Buffalo in free agency last spring. Searcy finished tied for second on the team with three interceptions in 15 games.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills starting safety Aaron Williams is inactive against the New England Patriots on Sunday because of a wrist & neck injury.

The Bills made a surprise move by listing receiver Mike Williams inactive even though he spent the entire week practicing. The Bills had moreover discussed increasing Williams' playing time as part of their red-zone offense.

Buffalo's starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams & linebacker Nigel Bradham are active after both missed last week's 17-14 win at Detroit because of knee injuries.

The move was announced Wednesday, & provides the Bills at least some long-term stability in their defensive backfield. Williams' signing came at a time when Buffalo stands to lose starting safety Jairus Byrd, who is preparing to test free agency next week.

Williams was Buffalo's second-round pick in the 2011 draft, & is entering the final year of his contract. He was rewarded with the extension after success in making the switch from cornerback to safety last season.
