Paris (AFP) – Edinson Cavani came off the bench to save Paris Saint-Germain's blushes & maintain their Ligue 1 unbeaten run as the champions retained top spot with a 1-1 draw at plucky Reims on Saturday.

The result means PSG will complete the weekend top of Ligue 1 on 14 points ahead of Rennes, who drew with Lille on Friday, on 13 while Caen are third on 12 after a 2-1 win over Montpellier.

All eyes, however, will be on Marseille on Sunday night as they host Lyon in the pick of the weekend games.

AMSTERDAM, Sept 19 (Reuters) – This season's surprise package Heracles Almelo moved to the top of the Dutch league with a 2-1 victory over champions PSV Eindhoven at the Polman Stadion on Saturday.

Heracles have 15 points from six matches, one more than second-placed PEC Zwolle & two ahead of Ajax Amsterdam, who play their game in hand on Sunday against Excelsior Rotterdam.

The defeat brought PSV crashing back to earth after their 2-1 midweek success over Manchester United in the Champions League.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay rookie Mikie Mahtook was out of the starting lineup one day after tying a team record with five hits in a game.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said a number of factors, including third baseman Evan Longoria being the designated hitter for Saturday night's game against Baltimore left-hander Wei-Yin Chen, led to his lineup decision.

''We were confident, probably, he couldn't do it again,'' Cash said with a smile. ''Mikie will be back in there very soon.''

TORONTO (AP) — One week after he suffered a broken left shoulder blade in an outfield collision, Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is no closer to knowing when he'll be able to play again.

Tulowitzki said Saturday that he's ''making strides'' after initially being unable to lift his arm. He was injured when he collided with teammate Kevin Pillar in the first game of a Sept. 12 doubleheader at Yankee Stadium.

Tulowitzki rejoined the AL East leaders on Friday after visiting a specialist in Boston. He said he has trouble finding a comfortable position to sleep, yet feels much better after each round of treatment he receives from the Blue Jays medical staff.
