RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Kyle Busch took the lead on pit road after just over 50 laps & showed why he's the NASCAR Xfinity Series career victory leader with a dominant run at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night.

The defending Sprint Cup Series champion led 197 of 250 laps en route to his 84th victory in the series. He moreover won for the eighth time in 14 starts this season, & the sixth time in his career at Richmond. It was his first victory since July 23 at Indianapolis.

And while Busch has plenty of experience dominating at Richmond, he called this victory, ''Unexpected.''

Buescher on verge of claiming improbable berth in the Chase

Chris Buescher's task, should he accomplish it Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway, is no small feat.

Buescher will try to parlay his improbable victory at a rain-shortened race this summer into a coveted berth in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Making NASCAR's playoffs would be a coup for Buescher & Denver-based Front Row Motorsports, an improbable participant in the Chase.

Buescher is eligible for the Chase by virtue of his August victory at Pocono . But the rules require the 16 drivers that make the Chase to be ranked 30th or higher in the standings, & Buescher is barely at that mark.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Jeff Gordon is mostly retired & Tony Stewart is almost out the door. Now Dale Earnhardt Jr. is sidelined for the rest of the year, exposing NASCAR's glaring need for new stars to captivate the audience.

The three huge names who have moved the needle for NASCAR the past two decades have a combined seven championships, 168 career Cup wins & five Daytona 500 victories. More important, they are the household names for NASCAR, the ones who move the needle & make people pay attention.

But Gordon called last year his last, only to be called back to the race car in late July when a concussion knocked Earnhardt out for the season. Stewart, meanwhile, has just 13 races left in his NASCAR driving career.
