Judge moves Hunter-NBPA suit to Los Angeles

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A judge has granted the motion for alter of venue to Los Angeles in former NBA players’ association executive director Billy Hunter’s lawsuit against president Derek Fisher & the union.

Hunter filed the suit in Alameda County, yet lawyers for Fisher, his publicist, Jamie Wior, & the NBPA argued it should be in Los Angeles, where they both live.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Frank Roesch agreed Thursday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies have traded forward Donte Greene to the Boston Celtics for center Fab Melo.

The team announced the deal Thursday.

The 7-foot, 255-pound Melo played six games with the Celtics last season & averaged 1.2 points. He averaged 9.8 points, 6.0 rebounds & a league-high 3.1 blocks in 33 games for the NBA Development League’s Maine Red Claws. Boston drafted the native of Juiz de For a, Brazil, with the 22nd pick overall in 2012 after he played two seasons at Syracuse.

Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris & business partner David Blitzer on Thursday bought the Devils & the lease to the Prudential Center from Jeff Vanderbeek for $320 million.

The deal was delayed roughly 15 minutes on Thursday morning because attorneys needed more time to sign off on the transfer of the financially strapped NHL team, which the league’s board of governor approved on Wednesday.

Venture capitalist buys minority stake in Warriors

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Silicon Valley venture capitalist Mark Stevens has purchased the minority stake in the Golden State Warriors previously held by new Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive.

The agreement announced Friday makes Stevens an executive board member, joining the ownership group led by Joe Lacob & Peter Guber. Terms of the purchase were not released.

Stevens is the managing partner of the investment company S-Cubed Capital in Menlo Park, Calif. He moreover is a special limited partner & former managing partner at Sequoia Capital, a global venture capital firm.

LeBron says police escort helped on way to concert

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — NBA MVP LeBron James says he needed an assist to obtain to a Justin Timberlake & Jay Z concert Friday night.

The Miami Heat star posted a video of him saying he was following ”a police escort on the wrong side of the street” to obtain to the concert at Sun Life Stadium. The eight-second video shows James’ vehicle behind others with police lights flashing, as oncoming traffic on the three-lane side of the road allowed them to pass.

It was unclear what law enforcement agency was providing the escort, which appeared to be taking place in the vicinity of the stadium. Traffic around much of the area was clogged because of the concert.

Police: Bobcats assistant coach Beyer charged

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The Saratoga Springs Police Department says Charlotte Bobcats assistant coach Bob Beyer was charged with resisting arrest Thursday night following an altercation with bouncers at Gaffney’s bar.

The 51-year-old Beyer was moreover charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration & disorderly conduct. All the charges are misdemeanors.

According to a police department press release, Beyer’s acquaintance, Edward Parenteau, allegedly assaulted one of the bouncers & ”Beyer & (Ryan) Chartrand attempted to stop officers from arresting Parenteau & they were arrested. Beyer then began fighting with the police & was charged accordingly.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Billionaire Chris Hansen, who tried to move the Kings NBA franchise from Sacramento to Seattle, is behind a secretive effort to thwart the city’s efforts to build a new downtown arena for the professional basketball team, California’s campaign watchdog disclosed Friday after an investigation.

The announcement is an embarrassment for Hansen, who lost his bid after NBA owners voted to keep the team in California’s capital city, & it could undermine support for the local ballot measure Hansen funded that is designed to put to a citywide vote the council’s planned $258 million subsidy for a downtown arena.

”I made a mistake I regret,” Hansen said in a written statement. ”While I’m sure everyone can appreciate how effortless it is to obtain caught up in the heat of battle, with the benefit of hindsight, this is clearly a decision I regret.”
